[Review] Mosko Moto Soft Luggage System for your ADV Bike

If you’re looking for soft luggage for your Adventure Bike, look no further than Mosko Moto. Mosko Moto luggage is durable, incredibly well executed, and made by riders for riders. Everything about Mosko luggage makes sense and is designed with the user in mind, making your long or short adventures organized, simple, and protected.

The Backcountry 35L Pannier Kit combined with the Backcountry Duffle 40L makes the perfect luggage system for an Adventure Bike. We have this system mounted on Tyson’s KTM 990 and my KTM 640. The install is simple and easy and your Mosko Moto Luggage will effortlessly adapt to any scenario you find yourself in.

Backcountry 35L Pannier Kit

The Mosko Moto Backcountry 35L Pannier Kit comes with everything you will need to painlessly install these panniers on your motorcycle. Upon arrival, we were a little bit surprised by the weight of the panniers alone; the wedge mounting system made from glass-filled nylon (prior to July ’16 these were made from machined HDPE) provides a very secure and stable mounting system but does add a little bit of weight. This point, other than being simply something we noticed, didn’t really affect us.

With the wedge mounting system comes ease of dismount. All it takes to remove a pannier from your motorcycle is a click of the steel (not plastic) latch, a slide upwards and the pannier is dismounted. This is an extremely convenient feature and while it’s not often we are removing and remounting the panniers, it is nice that it is so easy. The latches on our panniers have withstood the test of plenty of abuse (i.e. we fall a lot) and securely lock the panniers in place.

The wedge is mounted onto your motorcycle racks (ours are Gobi racks) with four aluminum pucks, and if your mounted rack does not require any customization, mounting the wedges could take less than 30 minutes and requires few tools and hardly any thought process.

Another benefit to the Backcountry 35L Panniers is that they are made up of a two part system. The removable interior liner is made from “22oz PVC material with welded seams, for a 100% waterproof seal” (https://goo.gl/lZZao5). We have definitely put the waterproofness of this interior lining to the test and I wouldn’t hesitate riding through the most intense rain storm with all of my camera gear packed into my pannier and question whether it could potentially get wet.

Keep in mind that the external pocket is not waterproof but is a great place to store anything that you will need throughout the day that can get wet. This external pocket also conveniently (not a great way to describe it because this is all planned and this is why Mosko is amazing) houses two 1 liter MSR fuel canisters side by side. Also note that when 1.25 liter sodas are on sale for $1, you will spend the $1 for that size instead of the $1.59 for a regular size and upon returning to the parking lot, realize that you don’t have room for a 1.25 liter soda… until you remember your external pocket. Thanks Mosko, Tyson can have his Coke and drink it too.

If you’re still not convinced with how well thought-out Mosko Moto luggage is, let this be the tipping point. On both the panniers and duffle, Mosko has integrated the MOLLE panels, which are compatible with most MOLLE accessories on the market. Since we are mostly camping off our motorcycles when we travel with them, the Large MOLLE Storage Pouches are perfect additions to the panniers. The Large Storage Pouches fit a 2L MSR Dromedary and even has an opening for the hydration spout. Not only is this amazingly convenient for cooking, it is also a really nice way to wash your face and brush your teeth! While the storage pouches could be mounted on the front or bottom of the pannier, we prefer mounting them on the front although it is great to have options for different scenarios that could arise.

The Backcountry 40L Duffle

The Backcountry 40L Duffle is a do-anything pack/duffle that will fit in the luggage stow area in an airplane or on the back of your motorcycle. Perhaps the most lovable feature of the Backcountry 40L is the quick transformation into a backpack. If for some reason you were to breakdown in the middle of nowhere, you could easily throw your essentials in your duffle, put it on your back, and hike out to where you need to be. It’s a relatively comfortable backpack, coming from what one would never guess to be a backpack.

Organization is key to camping off of your motorcycle and thankfully, the creators of Mosko Moto luggage are riders themselves and so they understand these concepts. With that said, the duffle has an amazing design and integration of organization systems.

The double over lapping beavertails make packing extremely easy. On one beavertail, there is a mesh pocket, which Tyson uses to store his toiletries. On the other beavertail, there is a clear map pocket that Velcro’s into place (and is removable). The benefit of the map pocket on the beavertail is that if you have to stop, you simply unbuckle three buckles and you have easy and clear access to your map.

If you run out of space, it is easy to adjust the beavertails and add extra layers or gear underneath and then tighten down with the additional gear.

On the top of the double-ended roll top there is a long pocket that is most popularly used for tent poles. It is also a really great place to store camera equipment such as a tripod.

The double-ended roll top is entirely waterproof (with it’s 22oz PVC material) and the fact that it is double-ended is hugely beneficial. If you can remember where you pack things (may take a few days) having both sides will greatly decrease your unpacking and packing time and increase your time out on the trail.

As if there aren’t enough organization factors included in the Backcountry Duffle, they’ve also included a MOLLE attachment point on the top of the beavertail closure. Easily add some extra space here using any MOLLE accessory you see fit.

The versatility and waterproofness of the duffle make it a perfect addition to any moto camping adventure. If you truly pack light, you could easily strap a duffle down to the back of your bike and be off. Keep your gear organized and dry and protected. Nothing doesn’t make sense with Mosko’s gear and you’ll be so happy you have it.

The incredible mix of features combined with high quality and durable materials, have made our Mosko Moto Luggage Systems super easy to travel with. Camping off the motorcycle, once your system is figured out, is more organized than it will ever be. Our luggage has withstood an ample amount of abuse and has yet to show any major signs of wear. While you must keep in mind that you are still getting soft luggage, you must keep in mind that you are getting “soft bags for hard travel” and once you mount these panniers, throw your duffle on and head out on an adventure, you will be thoroughly impressed with the attention to detail and quality of materials used.
