[Review] Polar Trex Dog Boots by Ruffwear

There were frigid days this winter in Colorado when we would head out for walks with Hank and I would just cringe at the sight of his poor little paws crunching through the cold snow. On one particular day, he only lasted about 4 minutes before he was sitting down trying to lick his paws. We turned around and went for a drive instead.

It was then that we knew we needed to get something for Hank’s paws for his comfort and protection. We had tried Ruffwear’s Polar Trex Booties in the past but hadn’t had much luck with keeping them on. With the new and improved Polar Trex Boots, we dialed in on Hank’s exact size and were excited to give them a try.

One thing that we did differently with this set of booties was order two different sizes for the front paws and back paws. Ruffwear provides you with a really good technique for measuring accurately. When we measured, we realized that there was about a quarter of an inch difference in his front and back paws and luckily, Ruffwear understands this and will ship you two pairs of different sizes. Getting the correct size is definitely key for a perfect fit and function of the booties so take time in measuring your dog’s paws.

The zippered stretch gaiter is key in helping the boots fit really well and stay on Hank. Combined with the Velcro closure underneath, dialing in the fit is simple and there is a wide range so whether your dog has skinny legs and big paws or thick legs and big paws, they will still fit.

The Vibram sole is key and in my opinion is what makes the Polar Trex booties stick out in the dog bootie world. This sole is not only durable and made to last; it provides really good traction for Hank whether on snow or ice.

The soft-shell upper is durable and weather-resistant. The DWR coating will ensure your pup’s paws will stay dry and the outer material will also provide protection from things like ski edges if you’re in the backcountry with your dog. With reflective trim on the top of the booties, your dog will be extra visible on your outings.

Hank can finally enjoy winter outings without his paws getting cold and exposed to the elements thanks to Ruffwear’s recently redesigned Polar Trex Booties. They fit like a glove, and thanks to the zip gussets don’t come off when Hank gets a little bit rambunctious. The Vibram sole helps with traction and will last for many winters ahead. If you’ve had trouble keeping booties on your pup’s paws, definitely head to your local dealer and try these out. I think you’ll be pleasantly impressed!
