[Review] The Mt. Bachelor Pad by Ruffwear

Some call him spoiled, we call him fortunate. Call him what you will, Hank’s excited to have another Ruffwear product in his Haul Bag to keep him warm and comfy when we’re camping, climbing, or just hanging out at home. The Mt. Bachelor Pad by Ruffwear is the perfect travel bed for your pet that’s soft on top and durable on the bottom so no matter where you are, your best friend will feel at home.

Probably our favorite feature of the Mt. Bachelor Pad is just how packable and light it is. It easily fits in the trunk of our Ural moto so when we head to the crag to do some climbing, we can unroll Hank’s pad so he can nap in the sun while we climb. While it’s not the beefiest padding wise, the fact that it is packable makes up for that for what we use the pad for. Hank seems to nap just fine on rocks, gravel, and dirt and so for him, the lightweight padding is not an issue.

The micro-suede fabric on the top of the pad is extremely soft to the touch so your pet can live in luxury while you’re camping or traveling. We love how durable the bottom of the pad is and with it being waterproof, Hank not only stays warm but dry too. We could throw this pad down on any surface and I wouldn’t worry about ripping or rubbing through the bottom of it. At first we thought the Mt. Bachelor Pad would kind of be a hassle to clean, as the micro-suede kind of collects dust easily. Then we found out that the entire pad is actually machine washable and so we have nothing to worry about!

Not only has Ruffwear incorporated into the pad two velcro cinch straps for packability, they also threw on a handle so it’s easy to carry with you. It seems like Ruffwear is always a step ahead of our thoughts when it comes to products that are perfect for traveling with your pet. Whenever we think “oh, I wish someone would make this for Hank” it seems that that product comes out within a few months.

Hank’s psyched on his new Mt. Bachelor Pad and loves to take it with him wherever we go. As far as sizing, Ruffwear offers a medium and large. Hank weighs 90 pounds and the large is plenty big for him. We were definitely surprised with how much extra room he has on it and so if you have a 100 pound plus dog, he or she should be just fine on the large. Whether you’re looking for a nice shiny new collar for your dog, a packable travel pad, a sleeping bag, or food bag, look no further than Ruffwear.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Machine washable
  • Soft on the top durable on the bottom
  • Packable

Cons

  • Because it is so light, it sometimes blows up in the wind which freaks Hank out. He is a little bit skittish at times so if your dog is not, this shouldn't be a problem.
