[Review] The Skyline LR 10 Hydration Pack by CamelBak

The Skyline LR 10 by CamelBak houses all of your favorite CamelBak features, but in a less traditional lower center of gravity design to alleviate back pain. The ultra-supportive dual-wing hip belt stabilizes the weight of the pack on your hips so you regain freedom in your upper body and get weight off of your shoulders and upper back. I was having extreme low back pain prior to switching over to the Skyline LR. Now I am pain-free and still have enough room for all of my gear and 3L of water.

The Skyline LR comes with a 3-liter Crux reservoir that includes the quick link so it is easy to get out of the pack and fill. The bite valve is also comfortable and locks so that you don’t accidentally spill all of your water on your way to the trailhead. The reservoir has its own pocket so it stays in place and won’t move around on the trails.

I’m a huge fan of the pockets and storage system on the Skyline LR. As stated in the video, the Skyline is perfect for warmer weather rides where you’re maybe only having to bring one extra layer and all of your essentials. If you’re riding a lot in cold/winter temps, you may find you don’t have ample room for extra layers, hats, gloves etc. Back to the pockets, they are all really well placed and keep me organized. The included tool roll is a bonus and has it’s own sleeve within the pocket, again minimizing any shiftiness that could happen out on the trails. The hip pockets are especially nice because you can easily stick a snack or small camera in them and access without taking the pack off. You also won’t feel the contents of those pockets thanks to the dual-wing hip belt.

If you’re riding in warm/hot conditions, the Skyline LR has ample ventilation throughout all of the straps and back of the pack. In hot weather, the 3D ventilated mesh harness makes a surprising difference over your traditional pack straps.

I’m beyond stoked on the Skyline LR 10 by CamelBak and can honestly say it has alleviated the back pain I was experiencing while riding. It has storage, water capacity, and the look of a normal pack but gets the weight down lower and stabilizes with the dual-wing hip belt. I almost wanted to try a hip pack but glad I went with the Skyline because it’s nice to have all the benefits of a normal pack.
