[Review] The Yukon Extremes Insulated Parka by Carhartt

I’ve had jackets this warm before, but I can tell you the price tags have been well over $500. The Yukon Extremes Insulated Parka by Carhartt is extremely warm, durable, and affordable. You also won’t be afraid to get it dirty because it’s built for it.

First off, the fit on this parka is great because of the longer length. For really cold temps, I will always grab a jacket that is longer in length because it truly adds a substantial bit of warmth. This keeps my upper legs and butt warm and protected no matter what storm I’m walking into. I will say that the medium is a great fit. I’m 5’10 and 155 pounds and usually sway between a medium and large for outer layers. The sleeve length is the only complaint I have when it comes to the fit of the medium. The hood also adds to the warmth and I love the faux fir trim. You can shape it a bit to keep the weather out of your face. If you aren’t a fan, you can easily remove it.

I typically prefer down insulation over synthetic insulation but the 390g of 3M Thinsulate insulation throughout this parka has kept me warm on the coldest of days. It’s also not bulky or heavy and still insulates even when wet.

Speaking of getting wet, my one gripe with this parka is that it doesn’t have any sort of DWR coating or waterproofing properties. I’ve never gotten wet while wearing this jacket even in heavy wet snow, but I feel like if you were in wet conditions for a sustained period of time, eventually you would get wet. I think what this jacket is built for, having some sort of moisture protection is key.

I’m continually blown away by the fact that Carhartt was able to make this jacket and it’s available for only $300. You’re getting one heck of a burly and warm jacket for that price and it’s more durable than many of the jackets you would find that are similar warmth and fit. If you need something that is going to keep you extremely warm in the coldest of conditions, but also something you can get dirty, be sure to check out the Yukon Extremes Insulated Parka.
