[Review] The Five Tennie Approach Shoe by Five Ten

A vintage look with modern comforts, the Five Tennie Approach Shoe by Five Ten is my around town, crag, anything shoe. Between the Stealth S1 Rubber Outsole, the comfortable sock-like entrance, fit, and feel, the Five Tennies are the shoes I grab for the most these days.

I’m not going to lie and say I didn’t buy these because I liked the way they looked. I really dig the multi-color vibe and so all of the incredible features were just a huge bonus to me. If you like the colors but are scared of the pink laces, don’t worry they come with grey laces too.

The leather upper is soft and supple yet I’ve found it to be durable even when spending a lot of time in rocks or boulders. The tongue is a breathable mesh material and is built-in for the sock-like fit.

If you’re like me and you like you shoes to fit snug and feel tight on, you will absolutely love the fit of the Five Tennie. I wasn’t sure I’d be a fan of the sock-like lining/entrance, but after spending a lot of time on the beach, I really dig it. When walking in deep sand, the sock liner/tongue helps keep sand and debris out of the shoe. This easily translates over to hiking or working your way to the crag, your shoes won’t fill with dirt or debris.

Speaking of size, I am normally a size 10 and I sized down an entire size. Most reviews online have stated that people have sized down at least a half of a size, if not an entire size. If you like your shoes to fit you really snug and well, I would highly recommend a full size down. It’s not the end of the world, just something to bear in mind if you’re ordering these online.

The outsole is built with Stealth S1 Rubber leading to insane grip no matter the terrain. Even when you start wearing such a grippy and amazing outsole as your everyday shoe, when you go back to a normal shoe you notice your lack of grip. Whether you’re scrambling to the crag, hiking in rocky terrain, or weaving through canyons with wet rock, the Stealth S1 outsole will not disappoint.

Whether you’re looking for a casual shoe for around town or a kick-ass approach shoe that you can wear in any environment, not only does the Five Tennie look good, it feels really good on. It’s a vintage vibe but with updated technologies and comfort. They’re lightweight and up for any adventure.
