[Review] The Geopress Water Purifier by Grayl

The Grayl Geopress Water Purifier is a quick and easy way to purify and filter dirty water on the go. We love how simple and foolproof the Geopress is, plus it’s just like packing your favorite hydration bottle but with an extra purifying punch.

To start with, the Geopress will remove 99.99% of viruses,  99.9999% bacteria, and 99.9% protozoa (including but not limited to Norovirus, salmonella, giardia, E. coli). The Geopress will also filter particulates like microplastics, sediment and silt, chemicals like chlorine, and heavy metals like lead and arsenic. Other than salt or brackish water, the Geopress has you covered no matter your water source.

Whether we are out on the motos, traveling in the van through Mexico, or heading overseas, the Geopress is easy to pack and one filter lasts a good amount of time. Grayl states that one purifier cartridge will remain effective for about 65 gal of water. The cartridges are easy and relatively cheap (~$30) to replace. The fresher the water is that you are pressing through your Geopress, the longer the cartridge will last. It’s also very easy to tell when your cartridge has hit the end of it’s life. If it’s taking you longer than 25 seconds to press your water through, it’s time to replace the cartridge.

As mentioned, we love how easy the Geopress is. Simply fill, press, and drink and it’s that easy! If you’re heading out on an adventure where you know you will have frequent and easy access to a water source, the Geopress is sweet. One thing that should be noted is that if you are heading out for a multi-day trip and you are unsure if there will be frequent water sources, the Geopress may not be the right water filtration system for that adventure. It only purifies 24 ounces of water at a time so definitely something to keep in mind. While you can fill, press, and fill another water container easily, it may not be the most efficient system out there.

We love that bringing our Geopress along on adventures takes up a similar amount of space as any traditional water container. It’s easy to pack and easy to use and can be thrown in any pack even if you think you’ll have clean drinking water but aren’t sure, it’s simple enough to bring the Geopress anyways.
