[Review] The Keb Trousers by Fjällräven

The Keb Trousers by Fjällräven are the ultimate mountain adventure pant that I will be wearing for many years and adventures to come. Not only are the Keb Trousers ultra durable, they’re also comfortable and built with the adventurer in mind. Featuring Fjällräven’s G-1000® Eco, the Keb Trousers are built to withstand the elements with sustainability in mind. These are not your everyday cargo pants.

I’ll admit that I’m the person who wears only Carhartts on the daily but when I first pulled these out of the box, I knew these were going to blow my Carhartts out of the water for many reasons. First of all, the Kebs define ultimate comfort and won’t restrict your movement no matter what you’re doing. I’ve rock climbed in these and hiked in them and I know that there’s not really an activity I couldn’t do while wearing the Kebs. The comfort comes mainly from the strategic placement of stretch material (specifically the G-1000 Eco, which we’ll touch on soon) of course mixed with durable material where you need it most.

At first, I was a bit intimidated by Fjällräven’s sizing but I ended up ordering my traditional US size and they fit perfectly! They’re not too tight, not too long, and wearing a belt isn’t mandatory. I’m 6’ tall and 200 pounds and I ordered the 33/34”. There is also a “long” version available in the Keb and that increases the length by 5cm, something I would definitely recommend checking out if you have extra long legs!

Fjällräven’s G-1000® Eco Fabric brings a lot of benefits to the Keb Trousers. First of all, G-1000® is extremely durable yet breathable, wind resistant, and made to be used with Fjällräven’s Greenland Wax for even more weather fighting capabilities. The Keb Trousers will continue to take applications of wax with the idea that not only are the Kebs customizable to your environment, they’ll also last a very, very long time. Even with the incredible durability of the G-1000®, these don’t feel overly stiff or uncomfortable, which is a nice change from what I’m used to.

The small details on the Keb Trousers add up to make a big impact in my mind. The pockets are all strategically placed, nice and big, and don’t limit your movement if you should actually use them for their intended purpose. I’m also a fan of the fact that Fjällräven didn’t waste time on pockets on the rear because they’d just get in the way anyways. I like the adjustable cuffs so I can get a precise fit for the boots or shoes I’m wearing at the time. They’re hidden nicely and not bulky. Complete with a built-in hook to keep your pants where they need to be when you get into the gnar.

I think the Keb Trousers are a bit warm if you’re going to be doing some hiking or climbing in high temperatures but the fact that there are two large vents on each leg makes up for some heat. Most recently, climbing a 14er, it got pretty warm on the descent below tree line but I was able to get adequate airflow moving through-cooling me down-by unzipping the vents on each leg. Having the vents is key and I would definitely be a little disappointed without them!

Overall, I think the Keb Trousers have really stepped up my outerwear game and are the perfect all around mountain pant to get me where I need to go, comfortably and well protected. For me personally, coming in at $225, this is more than I’d ever spend on a traditional pair of pants but I think it can be justified by not only the durability but the ability to treat them with a water-resistant wax. These are also made with high-quality materials and made well and I know they will last many many years. I am usually replacing my Carhartt’s once or twice a year and so if you do the math, it’s a pretty even playing field (and I may even come out on top with the Keb). If you’re looking for the ultimate mountain adventure pant look no further than the nicely fitting, comfortable and durable Keb Trouser by Fjällräven. If these (for some odd reason) don’t peak your fancy, be sure to check out the extensive line of trousers by Fjällräven.
