[Review] The Loke Jacket by Helly Hansen

I’ve never had a perfect rain jacket until now. The Loke Jacket by Helly Hansen is waterproof, windproof, and has pit zips. Built with Helly Tech Construction, it will keep you dry in even the wettest conditions but it will also keep you cool because of the breathability. One key feature about the Loke Jacket is that while it’s entirely waterproof, it’s also very light and packable.

The most important feature of a rain jacket is that it will actually keep me dry in the wettest of conditions and the Loke Jacket will do just that. I’ve had rain jackets before that after an hour or two in the rain, my inside layer just feels wet. I’ve not had that issue at all with the Loke Jacket and I’m overall extremely impressed by the waterproofing capabilities.

Often times when wearing a rain jacket I find it to be in warmer, more humid climates. The Loke Jacket is definitely the most breathable rain jacket I’ve ever worn and it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a trash bag. On top of the Helly Tech fabric’s nature of the breathability, the Loke also has pit zips. Something I’ve always wanted yet never had in a rain jacket. It’s a relatively simple feature but makes a big impact!

For our recent Europe trip, we knew we would face inclement weather but we didn’t know how much. We ended up having rain almost every other day and so the Loke Jacket was a very valuable piece of gear. We also were trying to pack light. Not only does the Loke Jacket pack down into it’s own pocket so to take up little space, it’s also light. For my layering system for the trip I took a fleece, a small down jacket, and the Loke. I was covered when it was cold and snowy, warm and rainy, or days when it was mild yet misting all day.

The fit is nice and flattering and I found it consistent with other Helly gear that I have. I’m 5’10 and 150 pounds and usually wear a size large in outerwear. The large Loke is a perfect fit – it’s not overly baggy to make it unflattering but it’s not too tight so I can’t layer up underneath it.
