[Review] The ULTIMATE Winter Jacket: Montana Jacket by Carhartt

The Montana Collection by Carhartt was new this year and I am a fan. I got the Montana Jacket and its hands down the best all-around tough and warm jacket for any winter projects outside. While this isn’t made with Carhartt’s typical tough duck canvas, it’s still relatively tough and insulated with synthetic down. It also packs a warm punch with Carhartt’s sherpa-lined upper body and hood.

I dig this jacket’s outer material because it is very tough for an insulated jacket. I have some down jackets that I hardly wear on a dog walk for fear that I’m going to tear them open. That’s not the case at all with the Montana jacket. I have even worn this jacket when I’m working on metal projects and it’s not showing signs of wear (I won’t do any grinding with this jacket on because I don’t want to risk it). In addition to being tough, the Montana jacket is built with Rain Defender and Wind Fighter Technology. No matter how brutal it is outside, you’ll be warm inside this jacket.

This jacket has ample pockets and a sherpa-lined hood that can be adjusted to keep the elements out. It’s the perfect combination of warmth and Carhartt tough and I can easily say the best winter jacket for everyday use. It even looks good on, so I can wear it out to a night on the town and not look like I’m wearing a dirty chore jacket.

This jacket is considered a loose-fit Carhartt jacket. It is a bit oversized on me, but I like the fit because I can easily fit layers underneath it and comfortably wear bibs under it as well. I’m usually a medium in Carhartt Loose fit, but for the previously mentioned scenarios, I went with the large. I’m 6 feet tall and 195 pounds.

Overall

10.0/10

Pros

  • Extremely warm AND tough
  • Sherpa lining is warm and soft
  • Lots of pockets
  • Durable enough to work in
  • Super affordable but a big warm winter jacket

Cons

  • Be sure to check sizing, as this is a Loose Fit Jacket. I could've gone with a medium for a more fitted fit. Not a really con, just something to keep in mind!
