[Review] Women’s Tonsai Tight by Mountain Hardwear

I have leggings that I love but not any that I would go climbing in; they’re all far too expensive to want to ruin and unfortunately delicate. When the Tonsai Tights by Mountain Hardwear showed up I knew I had just added to my collection a pair of leggings that I could wear during outdoor activities without the fear of ripping them to shreds. Not only are the Tonsai Tights ultra comfortable, but they’re also made to withstand the abuse of the great outdoors.

The most important thing about a pair of leggings for me is if they fit well and feel good on. The Tonsai Tights fit my body very well, are tight but not too tight, allow for free movement, and don’t fall down while I walk. The crotch gusset definitely helps with the fit and feel as does the high waist. Combined with a thicker waist “band” the high waist is incredibly flattering and keeps these tights in place all day long. I’m 5’10 and 155 pounds and I wear a size Medium. I’m usually a medium in leggings and I’m a size 6 in Lululemon leggings. One thing to keep in mind is that these tights are not offered in long inseam lengths so if you are taller like me, you may find these fall above the ankle (not quite crop, yet not quite full length).

Unlike some of my other tights, the Tonsai Tights are well built with beefy yet unnoticeable seams throughout. The construction material consists of a Durable Lycra© knit that adds to the overall comfortability and durability of the tights. If you plan on climbing in these, you’ll be happy to hear that they won’t at all be see through.

There are two more subtle features on these tights that really help set them apart from the norm in my opinion. I love the side panel pocket that fits an iPhone comfortably. I say comfortably because you can throw a phone in this pocket and still go hiking and not expect your pants to fall down because you are using the pocket for a pocket. I also really appreciate the mesh paneling on the back of the knee. It’s not something that I’ve seen before in tights but I’ve really grown to love it. It’s breathable and allows you to air out where you need it most.

If you’re looking for a high-quality pair of tights that won’t break the bank and won’t fall apart when you wear them outside, definitely check out the Tonsai Tights by Mountain Hardwear. They’re flattering, comfortable, affordable, and versatile and you won’t wanna leave home without them.
