[Review] The Only Tee You’ll Need: Transformative Tee by Good Somerville

The Transformative Tee by Good Somerville could very well be the only tee you need to buy for the summer. Not only is it comfortable, it’s light and breathable, dries quickly, and is made from 100% recycled polyester. I put my Transformative Tees through the wringer in the desert this spring and they did not disappoint. Whether you’re hiking, backpacking, climbing, motorcycling, or simply working in your yard, the Transformative Tee will withstand whatever you throw at it.

First of all, I have to say that polyester is not my first fabric of choice so I was a little bit hesitant to see the 100% polyester build for the Transformative Tee. I didn’t think there was any way that it would hold up to the stench that is produced when dirt biking. Dirt biking is extremely sweaty, I’m wearing the same gear day after day, and it’s just overall… dirty. Even when temps were in the 80s, I wore my Transformative Tee as a base layer under my body protection and jersey. After several days of wear, the Transformative Tee was not disgustingly smelly. Sure, it had a bit of a smell to it. But it was bearable which was impressive.

A feature that is mind-blowing about the Transformative Tee is that it’s treated with a technical finish to help with that odor that we all know and don’t love. Surprisingly, this “odor fighting textile finish is a natural polysaccharide [Bac-Shield] derived from shell waste left over from the crabbing industry that works to prevent the growth of microbes that contribute to unpleasant odor” (goodsomerville.com). I was pretty intrigued by this unique feature and after the outcome of many days of riding and no laundry, I can say that it works wonders.

If you are traveling with limited access to laundry, you can easily wash this tee in any sink or bucket. I hosed it down on concrete the other day and it felt like a brand new tee afterward. It’s also quick drying so if you are packing light, it won’t take days for your only tee to dry. Not only is the Transformative Tee quick-drying, it’s also moisture-wicking. This is especially important if you’re backpacking and you hit a steep section of trail just before sunset, start sweating, and then make it to camp. You don’t want to be soaked when you get to where you’re going to sleep. Between this tee working to wick moisture and its quick-drying capabilities, you’ll be dry in no time which will ultimately keep you warm.

Speaking of backpacking, if you’re going to be wearing a backpack all day with this tee, you won’t have any uncomfortable chaffing on the seams. It’s kind of hard to explain the seams but just know they are soft, comfortable, not bulky and lead to all-day comfort.

As far as sizing goes, I’m wearing a size large and would say that this tee fits true to size. I’m 6’0 tall and 200 pounds and the large is perfect no matter what activity I’m doing. It’s a nice length so that it stays tucked in and doesn’t rise unnecessarily when I lift my arms up. It’s also nice looking so if you wanna go for a run and then meet your friends for a nice lunch, you won’t even have to change.

I truly enjoy a product that you can use year-round, for many different activities, and the Transformative Tee is just that. It’s versatile yet highly functional, built with 100% recycled polyester, and affordable. Good Somerville is also doing a really cool trade-in program that works to prevent goods from going into our landfills. If you’re looking for that one key piece to your wardrobe that you can use for everything, travel with, and easily refresh, look no further than the Transformative Tee. We also can’t forget to mention that the Transformative Tee is made in the USA!
