[Review] Dragontail MNT GTX by Garmont

The versatile and durable low-cut hiking boot that is the Dragontail MNT GTX by Garmont, complete with a Vibram sole, has become my go-to daily shoe this winter. The Gore-Tex outer ensures protection from wet conditions, and a sturdy build makes for consistent stability for any adventure you may find yourself on.

While the Vibram sole is not the stickiest, most grippy material, it’s going to be versatile for hiking, approaches, long backpacking trips or daily activity and it’s going to last a long time.

Even though the Dragontail’s are seemingly feature-packed, I love wearing them to the ski resort, for dog walks in the snow, or just around town with my Carhartts. In Moab, they are perfect for any adventure, whether it’s hiking with Hank to Corona Arch, or canyoneering in the vast desert, the Vibram sole combined with the rubber rand, and built-out toe, ensures I won’t be falling or falling behind. It’s extremely beneficial to me that I can head out to a place like Moab and only take one pair of shoes. These are stylish enough and subtle enough to throw on for a nice dinner.

The fit is true to size, and the break-in period was a little over 5 wears for me personally. With all the eyelets provided for the laces, it allows for a very customizable performance fit. At first the Dragontail’s may seem a little stiff but after a few wears they will feel more normal. On the upside, the stiffness throughout will allow for charging in the backcountry when you have on a heavy pack.

The Dragontail MNT GTX is a great one-quiver shoe that is stylish, comfortable, and durable. Garmont offers a lot of different boots so you can perfectly match your level of adventure with the shoes on your feet and the Dragontail is also offered in an LT version which is a little bit lighter low-cut shoe for less aggressive hikes or excursions.
