[Review] The Ridge Shell by Helly Hansen

I’m usually one to pay more attention to fit and function rather than style when it comes to my backcountry gear, however with the Ridge Shell by Helly Hansen you get it all. Rather than fitting like your average performance fit, the Ridge Shell is designed more as a free ride jacket, which I love. The relaxed fit not only allows for easy layering, but it looks better and feels better.

Built with Helly Tech Professional Fabric, the Ridge jacket is sure to keep you dry in the wettest conditions and allow you to cool down when you’re hot. Unlike most waterproof backcountry shells, you won’t feel like you’re wearing a stiff board while you’re skiing.

The simple features won me over with this shell, especially the oversized cuff adjusters, high collar, and an integrated easy-to-find goggle wipe. The stylish high visible accents not only add pizzazz to this shell, they also ensure that your friends can find you when you’re skiing the deep powder.

The snap-out stretch powder skirt attaches flawlessly to your pants (Helly Hansen brand or not) ensuring that on really deep days, you won’t succumb to a powder-packed back.

I personally pair my Ridge Shell with my Helly Hansen Verglas Down Insulator, which is extremely compatible should I need something warmer than just a shell. This feature-packed, relaxed fit, and stylish jacket will make all of your friends jealous of more than just your telly turns!
