[Review] AP-5 Pants by Mountain Hardwear

Not only are the Mountain Hardwear AP-5 Pants durable and comfortable, but they’re also stylish and come in a multitude of colors. Recently these have become my desert pants and they adapt well to many environments. They’re not the lightest weight pants, but I’m willing to sacrifice some of the lightness for durability. These are amazing for rock climbing and have the right amount of stretch so my movement isn’t restricted no matter what I’m doing.

I love that the AP-5 Pants are versatile enough for any adventure, yet they look nice enough to wear out on the town. If I was heading out on a moto trip and I could only bring one pair of pants, these would be the ones.

While they’re relatively simple pants, there are a few key features that make the AP-5s stand out in my opinion. The first feature that is amazing, especially for climbing, is the cinch-able cuff at the bottom hem. It’s a simple feature but highly beneficial. Secondly, there is a zip pocket on the side of my thigh and it really ups the pocket game on these pants which is honestly pretty strong even without it. It’s the perfect size for a phone so I can comfortably have my phone on me and know that it’s secure and not going anywhere. The hand pockets also double as vents for airflow and the back two pockets are zipper closures as well.

As far as sizing, I’m 6’0 tall and 190 pounds and usually wear a size 34×32. Sometimes I even have to size down to a 32 but never really find myself sizing up. In the AP-5, the 34 is a little bit tight on my waist. It’s on the verge of being uncomfortably tight but I think the next size up would look overly large. I also feel like on Mountain Hardwear’s website these pants look like a very slim fit which I would say they’re not in real life.

Between the stretchy yet durable fabric, the crotch gusset, great pockets, and cinch-able cuffs the AP-5s are my new go-to.
