[Review] The Voyager Pro Protector by Trail Tech

One of the main questions we get asked about our Trail Tech Voyager Pros is “how do you protect it?” We’re happy to report that we’ve finally gotten the chance to test out the Voyager Pro Protector by Trail Tech. This protector is made of billet aluminum and gives your Voyager Pro the protection it needs.

The case protects nearly all of the body of the Voyager Pro, without getting in your way. The top pieces that bolt in both hold the VP in place and protect the top edges of the VP that are exposed and easy to damage. I like having this extra piece of mind when riding with a $650 unit on my handlebars. If you’ve seen me ride, you’ll feel this in your bones :). Let’s just say that seeing the Beta land upside down isn’t as uncommon as it should be.

With the Protector installed, you can still easily access all of your top buttons and you can also still access the SD card slot. The first ride we went on with these I was bummed because I had to upload some files and I thought that I would have to remove the top bars. I was happy to find that Trail Tech was of course smarter than I gave them credit for and still allows access to the SD card.

Mounting this Protector is super easy and will take you about 10 minutes. You’re just going to mount it on top of your handlebar mount, use the provided longer bolts, put your VP back in place, and then install the two top bars (4 bolts on each side). It only takes longer than a few minutes when you drop one of the tiny bolts and lose it for a good 15 minutes.

The one thing that Tyson and I weren’t sure about with these cases is the fact that on some trips, we’re switching back and forth between having the VPs mounted on our adventure bikes and our dirt bikes. It’s only 8 small bolts to remove the top bars that then give you access to the VP. It’s not really a big deal but here’s what we’ve come up with. We are keeping the protectors on our dirt bikes at all times. If we are on a dirt bike-only trip, we always have the top bars in place. If we are on a trip with both, we will remove the top bars and bolts. This still gives us protection but it’s easy to swap from bike to bike. The VP is still held in place by its original mounting dock, so you’re essentially just adding that extra protection around the outside of the Voyager Pro. If we know we’re riding dirt bikes for 3 days, then adventure bikes for 2 days, we’ll install the top bars.

If you have invested in a Voyager Pro, I would highly recommend installing this Protector. Not only will it give your unit an extra bit of protection, but it will also give you peace of mind on the most technical trails. If you haven’t seen our Voyager Pro Review, you can check that out here.
