The Maven Slim Pants by Dovetail Workwear [Review]

Finding a durable and function Women’s work pant anything has been a challenge I’ve faced working in the agriculture industry for the last 8 years. It’s taken a little while, but I’ve finally found work pants that can keep up with the dirty, long, sweaty, hard days. The Maven Slim Pants by Dovetail Workwear are comfortable, durable, functional, and fit so, so well. These are all the features I didn’t know I could find in one single pair of pants.

For me, the most important thing about pants, especially when I’m wearing them for work, is comfort. A lot goes into comfort including fit, materials used, and form. Also lending to how generally comfortable I feel is the look of work pants. I want to not look like I’m wearing bags, don’t want to be mistaken for a man, and want to feel proud that I’m a woman doing what typically a man would do and I can look like a woman while I do it. For the Mavens, the sizes available range from 000-18 and you have four inseam lengths to choose from (28, 30, 32, 34). That right there assures you that women are the designers and developers of Dovetail Workwear. No man would ever offer that many size options and I don’t mean that in a mean way, men just don’t understand how many options we need as ladies for sizes.

I have to say that the fit of the Mavens is pretty spot on with pant sizes for me of other brands. I’m 5’10 and 155 pounds and most typically go with a size 8L for pants (though sometimes I’m a 6, sometimes a 10 – you ladies feel me?). The 8×32 in the Maven Slim is the perfect fit for me. They are a titch long, but the 30s were too short so I opted for additional length and personally appreciate the cuff. I would recommend trying on Dovetail if you have the opportunity. I also have the Freshley Overalls and the 32s were way too short so in those, I’m an 8×34.

The material used (cotton/poly/elastane blend) is durable yet comfortable to move in. It’s not a restrictive material yet I know it won’t wear out after one season of wear. Adding to the durability are the double-front thigh panels. While this does add a bit of weight to the pants, I like having the extra durability. An optimal temp for these pants for me (which will be different for everyone depending on the job etc.) is 80 or below. Above 80 and I do get pretty hot but I am working outside most of the day and am in the sun and doing activities that add to me getting hot.

I love having the 10 different pocket options and these, ladies, are pockets that you can actually use! Imagine this: you can actually fit your hand comfortably into the hand pockets! Aside from the hand pockets you also have pockets down each leg as well as a tool hang and a tool loop. I really love the side panel pockets because if I put my phone in my back pocket I’m constantly having to move it. When it goes in the side pocket, it can stay there without getting in the way.
