[Review] The Phoenix Layering System by Orage

If you’re a cold person but enjoy winter activities, the Phoenix Layering System by Orage is something you need to add to your gear closet as soon as possible. If you love skiing deep pow but hate being cold, this layering system will let you enjoy all the pow without any of the cold. Both the Phoenix jacket and pants add the perfect amount of insulation where you need it most and are easy to layer over a thin base layer and under your outerwear.

Built with strategically placed Primaloft insulation, the Phoenix System will keep you warm even if it gets wet. Not only is the Primaloft Thermoplume insulation really warm, it’s also relatively lightweight so you can layer up without the bulk.

The insulation on the pants is placed exactly where it’s needed – on the butt and back of the thigh and on the front of the thigh and crotch. I have bibs, ski pants, and one-piece suits that are incredible pieces of gear but I usually can’t wear a shell, even with a thick base layer, because I get too cold. Now I can wear them all without worrying about getting cold! I just throw on a thin base layer and then the Phoenix pant and I’m warm throughout the entire day.

The Phoenix jacket is something you’ll find yourself wearing year-round. Its versatility is unmatched and will keep you warm whether you’re wearing it skiing deep pow in the winter or around the campfire in the springtime when temps still dip low at night. If you’re doing activities that involve wearing a backpack, it’s a great layer because you have insulation in the front and arms but lightweight fleece throughout the back panel so you won’t overheat with a backpack on.

The jacket has a super nice high collar that keeps your neck warm throughout the day. I really like that it doesn’t have a hood and I think if it did it wouldn’t be as great of a layering piece.

I’m not sure how I ever survived cold temps without the Phoenix Layering system and if you find that you’re often cold, even with the thickest/best base layers, I highly suggest investing in the Phoenix Layering System. You’ll get year-round use out of the kit, it will keep you warm on the coldest of days (thus improving your mood), and it looks rad too! You’ll head to dinner after skiing and be warm and stylish. If you don’t wear the Phoenix Layering system skiing, I bet you a hundred bucks it’s the first thing you change into when you get your ski boots off.
