If you and your dog like to embark on cold, wintery adventures it’s time you invest in the Powder Hound Jacket made by Ruffwear. The Powder Hound jacket is an insulated hybrid jacket that fits really well, stays in place no matter the activity, and gives Hank warmth where he needs it most. Speaking to the fit, it’s spot on for Hank. He’s wearing a size large and he’s 90 pounds. We ordered using Ruffwear’s size chart and the fit is perfect. It’s not so tight that it’s uncomfortable for him but it’s not so loose that it bothers him when he runs or moves. We really like how the jacket is fitted, meaning it has leg loops rather than just being a vest style. Not only does that help keep the jacket in place, but it also provides added warmth.
The jacket is made with a recycled 250g high loft polyester synthetic insulation and the shell is polyester. The exterior material is surprisingly durable. If Hank ran through a barbed-wire fence, I think the jacket would definitely tear but just everyday wear and tear on the trail (tree branches, rolling in dirt, other dogs’ nails) hasn’t been an issue for the material.
There is also a light loop and reflective material on the back of the jacket which are two added benefits for when you’re walking your dog in the dead of winter and it gets dark at 4:30 pm.
We couldn’t ask for a better second coat for Hank who unfortunately struggles with hair loss. The Powder Hound keeps him warm on cold walks but doesn’t restrict his movement or make him uncomfortable. He’s able to do everything and more with the Powder Hound on and we have peace of mind that he’s not getting too cold (especially on his back where his hair is the thinnest).
