[Review] The Allure Helmet by Smith (w/ MIPS)

If you want lightweight, comfortable, and ultimate protection look no further than the Allure Helmet by Smith. The integrated MIPS technology will protect your head from impact with having little impact on the feel or fit of the helmet. Wear this helmet with a pair of Smith Goggles and you have seamless helmet to goggle integration!

The lining of the Allure is extremely soft and feels great up against my skin. It adds a bit of cozy warmth on those extra cold days and won’t irritate or rub your skin raw. The venting throughout the Allure is sufficient for me, as I tend to be a pretty cold person. On warm days, it helps to regulate my temp and allows for a bit of airflow. I don’t feel as though I really notice the vents on really cold days, and I’ll usually wear a buff/thin hat under my helmet because I do run cold. The way the venting is set up makes for a nice intake/exhaust system, there are not just randomly placed vents throughout.

Smith’s self-adjusting lifestyle fit system is nice in the fact that once you set it to fit your head, it continues to fit well without readjustment. It’s basically a tab on each side of the helmet that clicks into place. There are three or four options to click into so you can really refine the fit. In the back of the liner there is a piece of elastic which makes for a very comfortable yet secure fit.

The ear pads are music system compatible, simply pop in your preferred device and zip the ear pads closed. We prefer Outdoor Tech Chips so be sure to check out that review if you’re one who likes to ride to tunes. If you prefer to wear your helmet over your hat and goggles, the ear pads are easy to remove.

The Allure Helmet is seriously light and you may forget you’re wearing it until you take a digger and realize that the MIPS saved you from a severe head injury. Available in multiple colors (MIPS only in some colors) not only can you get a helmet to fit your head well; it can fit your style too! I have my Allure Helmet paired with Smith’s I/O Goggles for all-day comfort and perfect fit.

Overall

9.5/10

Pros

  • Affordable (especially for including MIPS)
  • All-day comfort
  • Easily compatible with music systems
  • Smart venting
  • Fits perfectly with my Smith I/O Goggles

Cons

  • Takes a hot second to adjust to your nugget but once you have it adjusted, you don't have to continue to mess with it throughout the day
  • Can look a little oversized (but what helmet doesn't + does it really matter what you look like when you're thinking safety first?)
