[Review] The MTN Crew Glove by Gordini

I definitely got the chance to test out the waterproofing capabilities of the Gordini MTN Crew Gloves in the last few weeks. We’ve been skiing California and we have had more than our share of extremely wet days, both at the resorts and in the backcountry. Between the Aquabloc® waterproof insert, Downtek™ insulation, and neoprene cuff to seal out the elements, the MTN Crew has been my go-to glove.

The Aquabloc® insert keeps my hands dry no matter the conditions but is still breathable. I have fairly warm hands so when they start to sweat on a deep pow day, I need my gloves to be able to breath so that they don’t stay soaked all day long. These have passed the test!

If you’re not familiar with Downtek™ insulation, it’s about time you got on board! Downtek™ is down treated with a water repellency so that it doesn’t lose its insulating power when it gets wet. I love that the majority of the insulation is on the back of my hand so that I can still feel what’s up against the palm of my hand. While the palm is still insulated, it’s not nearly as noticeable as the top of the hand. Not only does this make it comfortable to hold a ski pole, it also offers superior dexterity.

Speaking of dexterity, while I love leather gloves, they can sometimes be rough to break-in. That is not the case with the MTN Crews! Genuine cowhide is used on the palm, fingers, thumb, and reinforcement areas while a durable woven nylon is used in the knuckles and wrist. This lends itself beneficial for ultimate dexterity and not to mention the fact that there is literally no break-in period for these gloves (huge bonus). I love that Gordini reinforces the inside of the grip area so that holding your ski pole by day 100 won’t have worn through your gloves.

If you’re looking for a highly waterproof, windproof, gnarproof pair of gloves that will withstand abuse but still look like that trendy work glove look that everyone is going for, look no further than the MTN Crew Glove. Insulation where you need it most will keep your hands warm on even the wettest and coldest of days. Be sure to check out the other Gordini products that I’ve reviewed here.

Overall

9.8/10

Pros

  • Insulated but still easy to maneuver
  • Dexterity is awesome and no break-in period
  • Insulated with Downtek so still insulates when wet
  • 100% waterproof and windproof

Cons

  • While I like the leather, I feel like it is a bit softer of a leather used which I could see compromising durability down the road
