[Review] The Men’s Syncline Shorts by Dakine

If you run warm when you ride like me, it’s time to check out the Syncline Shorts (with liner) by Dakine. The Syncline shorts keep me cool – temperature wise and appearance wise and are so comfortable no matter what type of riding you’re doing.

First and foremost, the fit of the Syncline Shorts is on point and if you don’t have a perfect fit right out of the box, you can adjust the interior side waist adjustments for the most precise fit every time. I am 6’0 tall 200 pounds and am wearing the Large. I like the fit on the waist and also the length. The length is ideal if you’re doing some downhill riding and don’t want a weird gap between your shorts and pads. These shorts will lay nicely over your pads and won’t cause any discomfort throughout the day.

Having the right pockets when it comes to mountain biking gear is kind of important for me. I like that these shorts do not have back pockets and the two main hand pockets have zippered closures.

Part of what helps me stay so cool while wearing my Syncline Shorts are the laser cut mesh panels both along the rear yoke and the inner thighs. I had a bit of an incident where my shorts contacted my back wheel and the mesh did not hold up so well. I love that it keeps me cool but I do feel as though it’s possibly not the most durable build.

The only real problem I have with the Syncline Shorts comes into play with the included liner. When I first pulled them out of the box and threw them on, I thought there was no way I’d ever actually be able to wear them. The liners are very bulky, large, and uncomfortable when standing with them on. It feels as though you have something shoved in your shorts. Although I didn’t think it was possible, I decided to ride with the liners on as they came.

I didn’t notice this extreme bulk while riding, it was only when I was standing with the shorts on or walking around after riding. While they’re annoying when I’m just standing, it is nice that they don’t bother me while riding. When you first throw these on I’d have to think you will think the same thing so just keep in mind they shouldn’t bother you while on the bike.

The Syncline Shorts are a great addition to any mtn bike gear bag and will help cool you down in those really hot riding conditions. The bulky liner doesn’t impair your riding and the venting throughout will continue to let airflow in where it’s needed most. You’ll look good and feel good no matter what kind of aventures you’re on. Also be sure to check out my review of the Vectra Jersey as it pairs perfectly with these shorts keeping you looking cool and fresh.
