[Review] The Rambler Pant by Orage

If someone rolled all of the amazing backcountry skiing features of a pant into one, you’d end up with the Rambler Pant by Orage. Not only are they made with Orage’s ultimate Prime 30 fabric, they are complete with bibs, a comfortable high waist, and full length leg zips.

Orage’s Prime 30 fabric is one of the best out there as it is entirely waterproof yet breathable and is a 4-way stretch material. This means that not only are you getting the best protection from the elements, you can actually move while you are getting those benefits. The pants will move with you whether you’re heading up or heading down.

I love the higher waist of the Rambler Pants, as it allows for a great and comfortable fit but also won’t let my butt get wet/snowy. Unlike other bibs that I’ve tried, the material above the waist is a stretch material so if I’m layered up on the cold days, it won’t feel stiff and uncomfortable. It’s really nice to be able to conceal my lower back, mostly so the ladies don’t have to see the top of my butt crack but also because it is much warmer.

Again saving my two favorite features for last, the lower leg reinforcement and full leg venting is what sends these pants out of the ballpark for me. The lower leg reinforcement isn’t just a little added material where you need it. It’s a full on durable material that is the entire cuff of the leg. The material seems bomb-proof and I haven’t ripped them yet so that is saying something.

As for the full-leg venting system, you will not have trouble regulating your temperature on the skin track. The zipper starts at my hip and goes all the way to the bottom hem of the pants. With both legs totally unzipped, it’s about as close as you can get to taking off your pants without taking off your pants. I love that Orage still included a boot gator, but it snaps closed on one side so that it is removable as well.

I used to dread making sure I was dressed appropriately for a backcountry tour but not anymore. With the Rambler jacket and pant combo, I am absolutely confident that no matter what happens, my temperature will be easily regulated without even having to stop on the skin track. If you do any backcountry skiing at all, you must look into the Rambler combo.
