[Review] The Wide-N-Compact Dynamic Camping Table by Portal

We made a major upgrade to our Baja outdoor living space this year and it’s a simple one we should’ve made way sooner. We spend about 95% of our time outside when we’re at camp unless we’re sleeping and so having a comfortable space is important. This year, we added two Wide-N-Compact Dynamic Camping Tables by Portal to our setup and we were stoked. We used one as a dining table and one as a food prep/catch all table. I honestly thought it may be overkill to have two tables but once we got camp set up, it was so perfect. It was really key to have one clear at all times to be able to eat on and one for prepping and setting up meals.

The cool thing about these tables is that they are the perfect size once set up but pack down into a nice packable bag. When packed, the dimensions are 48 inches long, 7 inches wide, and 6 inches deep. One table weighs 12 pounds which for us, seems pretty light for the size of table that it is. When set up, the table is 28.3 inches tall, 27.6 inches wide, and 47.2 inches long. It can comfortably fit four people for a meal, though there were times where we had six people eating around it! The height is perfect as a table height but you will have to slouch a little bit if you’re using it as a prep surface. This isn’t really a complaint because if it were a comfortable counter-top height, it would be awkward to sit and eat at.

This table is made out of aluminum which is beneficial for a few different reasons. First of all, it’s lightweight. Again at 12 pounds, it’s light for its size. Living next to the sea, it’s really nice to have aluminum pieces because they won’t rust. Even the tap water at our camp site is slightly salty. Anything that is steel or not stainless will rust within a matter of weeks and so we try to avoid it if we can. We weren’t sure how durable the table top would be, but it held up really well! We did not treat it kindly (ie. sand covered bottles, hot pans, 5 gallon water jugs and more) and the table tops still looked dang near new when we were packing up camp! I didn’t look too closely but I don’t even think we scratched them, which is very surprising.

The stated weight limit is 66 pounds and we’re not suggesting you go over that, but we’re fairly certain that it can take it! We stored a 5 gallon water jug on the table at all times and sometimes two and so I’m sure we went over that 66 pounds at times. Even with the weight unevenly distributed, we never felt that the table was going to fail and it never felt unstable. One leg is adjustable so no matter what terrain your camp is on, you can level the table. No more trying to level with miscellaneous things around camp!

As you can see in the video, packing up or setting up the table is a quick and easy process. I love that everything fits nicely into the included carrying case. There’s even an included mesh storage shelf that hooks in just under the table top. I thought we’d use this area for everything! But we ended up not really using the shelf. It’s a great space to store random things to help keep the top clean.

If you’re ready to enhance the comfort of your outdoor camp space, look no further than the Portal Wide-N-Compact Dynamic Camping Table. These tables pair extremely well with Portal’s Big Boy Camp Rocker. Be sure to check out the camp rocker review here.
