[Review] The Big Boy Rocker Camp Chair by Portal

We made a major upgrade to our Baja outdoor living space this year and it’s a simple one we should’ve made way sooner. We spend about 95% of our time outside when we’re at camp unless we’re sleeping and so having a comfortable space is important. We’ve slowly learned that chairs are one of the most important staples while hanging out. Small and extremely compact camp chairs have their place but when you have the space to pack, it’s not worth it to skimp on the chair. This year we had two Big Boy Camp Rockers by Portal. Not only did they pack well, but they are full-size comfort and they rock – which is a huge bonus! We felt pretty dang fancy.

Let’s talk size because that’s an important point when you’re packing into a house on wheels. For how big and comfortable these chairs are when set up, they’re pretty condensed down when packed into their carry bag. The packed up package is about 40 inches long, 7 inches wide, and 7 inches deep. It weighs 30 pounds so again, this is not a lightweight backpacking chair that you’ll pack with you into the backcountry. For camper living, it’s perfect.

Where this chair shines is in the comfort department. It’s a full size rocking chair with a weight limit of 300 pounds. The seat, seat back, and arm rests are also padded so you’re not just resting on one layer of fabric. We used these chairs on a tarp floor that we put down over sand and they still worked well. In deep or soft sand, you won’t be able to use the rocking function but they’re still a comfy seat to sit in. One thing to note is that if you are putting these down on an easily scratched surface, you’ll want to use caution at first and make sure that no damage occurs. How the chairs fastens together there could be small marks made so just test it before you go wild with your rocking.

These rockers also come with a little side pouch. To be honest, at first I thought it kind of seemed like a gimmicky afterthought. Then I realized how much I loved it and used it all the time. It’s the perfect place to put your phone while you’re hanging in the chair and you will always know where it is. It’s also big enough for a book or two, some snacks, and an iPad.

When we first opened up the Big Boy Camp Rockers, we thought they’d take way more time to set up. They are super fast to set up and take down! Just make sure that the locking portion is correctly placed over the rocking leg before locking down. We also love that these come with their own bag. It makes for organized and easy packing.

If you’re ready to enhance the comfort of your outdoor camp space, look no further than the Portal Big Boy Camp Rockers. They also pair extremely well with Portal’s Wide-N-Compact Dynamic Camping Table
