[Review] The Hood Tank Bag by Mosko Moto

The new Hood Tank Bag by Mosko Moto is everything my wildest tank bag dreams are made of. Not only is the Hood 100% waterproof, durable, and weather-proof, it’s quick and easy to get in to. I don’t know if you can relate but my fingers get super dry and cracked, especially on moto trips and the most painful thing is trying to wrestle the zipper on my tank bag to get into it. I can wish that thought away because the entrance into the Hood consists of only one simple harmless buckle. Check the video below if you really don’t believe me (I wouldn’t believe me either if I didn’t have the tank bag in front of me).

Most importantly, the Hood is 100% rainproof, weatherproof, gnarproof. No matter what you choose to carry in the Hood, your contents will stay safe and dry. The seams are waterproof and designed with a clamshell lid. The design has been tested thoroughly and I can say from all of my other Mosko gear when they say waterproof, that’s exactly what they mean.

While simple, the Hood is equipped with features that are crucial to your organization while on the road. When you open the Hood, it’s nice and open and easy to structure how you want or need. The capacity of the Hood is 5L and I’ve found that it’s perfect for holding my camera as well as a few other essential and valuable items. I can fit both my Sony A6000 and Canon DSLR with a medium sized lens. I love that I can keep my camera in a waterproof bag that is super easy to access – so I never miss the shot!

The Hood also comes with two organization “wallets” that Velcro securely to the sides of the inside of the Hood. I love being organized and these are just an additional tool to help me stay that way. I use one as a wallet with credit cards, money, my license, and important documents. The other one I use as a place to keep all of my cords/headphones/extra batteries. It’s nice to know where everything is and know that it’s secure.

Speaking of secure, there are three internal mesh pockets and they are all zipper closures. When traveling, I have a tendency to stash cash in these said pockets, which I’m not really sure why, but it seems to have worked thus far. It’s nice to have separate pockets on the inside of the bag that are all zipper closures. I especially love the placement of the pocket on the inside/top of the clamshell lid. I know for a fact that I’ll stash something in there and forget about it and then randomly find it 6 months later. That’s what I call the gift that keeps on giving.

I was in a hurry when I installed the Hood and it was really easy and quick to get on my KTM 640. The mains attach to your frame via zip tie – a feature that I love. No more twisted webbing rubbing holes in your frame paint. Not only is it more secure and won’t damage your bike, it is quicker to install/uninstall. The included foam pads located on the underside of the bag also help to protect your bike. Thank you Mosko for thinking about those kinds of things.

Since my tank bag usually holds all of my valuables (well shit, now this fact is on the web so is someone going to find me and take my tank bag?!), I like to take it off when we get to camp/hotel/wherever. The Hood is super easy to remove for the night. All you have to do is release 3 buckles and you’re good to go. I do wish the bag had a little grab handle somewhere on it but it’s definitely not a deal breaker for me.

Lastly, consistent with most of the Mosko line, there is a MOLLE panel on the top of the Hood. MOLLE is a versatile system that’s easy to use and can be used for a ridiculous amount of attachments! You can do whatever you want when it comes to MOLLE but Mosko’s waterproof map pouch mates really nicely with the Hood.

I’ve tried a few tank bags before and I have to say that hands down this is the best one I’ve ever slapped over my tank. The fact that it’s waterproof but so incredibly easy to access are two things I didn’t know could exist as one but Mosko has done it and now I just get to enjoy it. My dry and cracked fingers don’t start to bleed just by trying to get my camera out and I can stay effortlessly organized on any adventure. If you’re looking for a tank bag or any other kind of luggage for your adventure moto/dual sport/enduro bike, be sure to check out Mosko. We use and abuse their gear and solidly stand behind their products.
