Outdoor Gear Reviews

[Review] Men’s Lifestyle and Adventure Clothing from United by Blue

Not only is United by Blue making great gear, they’re also making a difference environmentally. For every product sold, United by Blue is removing one pound of trash from our oceans and waterways. They’re also using sustainable and responsible materials to create their gear. And that’s only half of it. What I love is that not only is United by Blue making a change environmentally, but their clothing is amazing. Some companies work very hard philanthropically but their product lacks in more ways than one. That is not the case with United by Blue and the Hoy Shorts and Wellwood Stripe Button Down is my outfit of the summer!

I am literally living in the Hoy Shorts for many reasons. First of all, they are so comfortable and have the right amount of stretch so I experience no restriction no matter what activity I’m doing. They are also quick drying (plus water-resistant fabric) so they transition seamlessly if you want to take a quick swim in the lake or you’re heading out on a water trip. I honestly thought these were just shorts when I ordered them. I guess that’s why United by Blue deems them “your secret boardshort.” For some reason, I really don’t like wearing boardshorts around but now I can have the benefits of boardshorts without the look no matter where I end up.

Most recently, Cally and I headed out on a 5-day self-supported canoe trip. I only took these off to sleep—wait no now that I think about it I slept in them—and they were perfect for the trip. The Hoy Shorts are breathable for the hot days paddling and dried quickly before hanging around camp in the evenings.

I especially like that the Hoy Shorts have pockets and I think that’s what really gives them the extra touch of styling. The pockets are all very functional and I can appreciate that the two back pockets are zipper closures.

The Hoy Shorts fit true to size. I am 6’0 and 200 pounds and I normally opt for a size 34. The drawstring ensures that you won’t lose your shorts when you dive in the lake and also gives you the ability to get the perfect fit every time you throw them on.

The Wellwood Stripe Button Down is not a traditional outdoor activity styled shirt for me but I’ve enjoyed wearing something other than a t-shirt. Not only does the Wellwood look dapper and nice fitting, it is breathable and comfortable. Even if you’re just wearing this shirt in the office, it won’t feel like the rest of ‘em. It doesn’t restrict any motion and is made with a nice and light hemp and recycled poly blend.

I feel like I’m becoming one of those fancy outdoorsmen and while that wasn’t my overall intention years ago, I’m enjoying it. It wouldn’t be possible without the comfort of this gear because I know I could never wear clothing like this outside if it was at all restrictive or uncomfortable!
If you’re looking for some new adventure and outdoor clothing, be sure to check out United by Blue. Not only are they creating amazing clothing for men and women, they are committed to making an environmental impact by pledging to pick up one pound of trash for each product sold!
