[Review] RV Sand-Free Mat by CGear

Last year we reluctantly purchased an RV mat for the first time and we did so naively – not knowing there was a good option out there for our home away from home front porch. This year we were introduced to CGear and now we have to spread to stoke to all RVer’s on this amazing product that has made hanging out outside our camper much more enjoyable and has helped keep the interior of the camper cleaner.

The RV Sand-Free Mat by CGear is not only a genius idea; it’s the perfect size, easy to tie down, comfortable to hang out on, and easy to wash. The sand literally falls through the mat and so there is no way for it to collect in places, thus collecting on the bottom of your shoes and ending up inside your camper. With Hank, he is all over the place. If he walks from the sand and onto our CGear mat then inside, the amount of sand that is on his paws is significantly reduced.

Often times we are not only dealing with sand, but also small rocks and gravel. This was a huge problem with our cheap Wal-Mart mat. The rocks underneath the mat would create holes and divots and overall the mat just really didn’t hold up well. The CGear mat continues to impress us in this way. Even our outdoor chairs, with small feet, leave no sign of wear on the mat. If small rocks and gravel blow onto the mat it is super easy to sweep off. The sand, of course, falls through.

Having the Sand-Free Mat is even beneficial in rain. If you’re in a sandy/muddy area, the sediment doesn’t seem to stand on top of the mat. It feels very clean after a rainstorm, even if underneath the mat it is a mud pit.

One huge benefit to upgrading to the RV Sand-Free Mat is the amount of space it takes up when it is folded into it’s provided bag. It takes up less than half the space of our other mat, which is a huge bonus when traveling in the RV.

The one (and only) disappointment we have with our mat is the fact that it does not come with stakes. For spending $120 on an RV accessory, it would be nice to see some stakes included. For a while, we simply used rocks to keep the mat in place. We then went to Wal-Mart and purchased stakes ($1/stake for the heavy duty) and they really do work well to hold the mat in place (through the provided D-Rings of course) and now when we have people over they aren’t tripping over rocks.

Not only has our CGear mat made a difference in how clean the inside of our RV is, it has also made hanging out outside the RV comfortable and Hank loves it too! He loves having a mat to sprawl out on if we forget to throw his bed out there. We know that our CGear mat is going to last bounds longer then the cheap mat we bought and not to mention how easily our CGear mat fits into the camper. CGear makes many different products with the same technology like beach mats and drone landing mats so be sure to check out their website!
