[Review] The Gage Helmet by Smith

Protecting your nugget just got a whole lot easier (and more affordable) thanks to the Gage Helmet by Smith. I think we can all agree that even the cool kids are wearing helmets these days and for costing only $90, “not being able to afford” one just got kicked off the excuses list. Thanks to the Gage I can protect my head while being comfortable, staying high viz, and having a seamless integration with my Squad XL Goggles by Smith.

Not only does the Gage fit well out the box, Smith knows that we all have a different size and shape of head. With the self-adjusting lifestyle fit system you can set your size once on know that day after day, when you throw your helmet on it is going to fit the same as when you took it off. While this system isn’t as easy or quick as a turn dial fit system, once you adjust it you no longer have to mess with it.

The helmet liner is extremely soft and comfortable on my head. The earpads are also nice and plush but they’re also removable so if you prefer to wear your beanie under your helmet, you can easily do so. If you’re one to rock while you ride, the earpads easily meld with audio systems so you can comfortably listen to tunes all day.

Regulating your temp is also easy with the Gage helmet. Numerous vents are strategically placed throughout the helmet to allow for a venting system (pulls air in, releases air out) rather than randomly placed helmet holes.

If you’re looking to protect your head and want to do so for under $100, look no further than the Gage. Simple and functional, even the cool kids are wearing them and if you’re extra cool like me then you are wearing the “Reactor” green color. The Gage has everything that you could want in a helmet but nothing that you don’t need. It’s relatively lightweight and easy to forget about. A huge benefit to wearing a Smith helmet with Smith goggles is the seamless integration – giving you all day comfort and getting rid of that gaper gap. What more could you want?!

Pros

  • Very affordable
  • Channels/vents help regulate temperature
  • Looks and feels great
  • Awesome color options
  • Removable earpads so you can wear your helmet under your helmet if you prefer

Cons

  • I've really been loving the extra protection of MIPS technology in other helmets, however that shoots the price way up
