[Review] The Primetech Stove Set 1.3L by Primus

Whether you’re camping close to home or far from it, the PrimeTech Stove Set 1.3L will let you cook no matter what conditions you’re out in. The integrated burner and wind guard combined with the heat exchanger on one of the 1.3L pots keeps things cooking quickly. This set fits nicely together, is fast and easy to set up, and is the perfect size for 2-3 campers.

Probably the most unique feature of the PrimeTech Stove Set is the fact that the burner is integrated into a wind guard. Not only does this protect from wind immensely, it also makes for a very sturdy base of support. We’ve found that in typical winds, the wind guard really protects the flame and heat transfer from the burner. In extreme winds (25 mph +) you will also benefit from setting up the additional included wind guard. The way the burner is designed, the pots sit down a little bit which also helps in protecting from the fierce winds. If you have a larger pot, the burner can still be used with the flip up supports.

The heat transfer pot combined with the wind guard burner made for some of the fastest boiling times we have seen in a long time. At first, we thought the heat transfer on the bottom of the 1.3L ceramic non-stick coated pot would be a bit of a waste of space and weight but after using it, it is evident that it is not only worth it because it works but really doesn’t take up much extra space.

The included detachable gripper handle is really nice because you can attach it anywhere on the pots and is easy to use. It will not come off unless you release the red lever and so it’s a very secure and safe connection. It’s durable yet light and packs nicely into the kit.

We really like how quiet the PrimeTech stove is as we feel it is much quieter than most stoves we’ve had in the past. It’s so quiet that you’ll question if it’s on. You can easily have a conversation around the stove while it’s going which sounds a little silly but we’ve had stoves that limit this.

The stove set packs nicely into itself and into the provided bag so it is easy to pack and stay organized. The bag could potentially be used for a wash sink, and although it’s not made for that we found that it holds water relatively well.

Our one complaint with the PrimeTech Stove Set is that there is nothing to protect the pots with when all packed together. We are often camping off the motorcycles and packing this set as it comes and throwing it in a moto pannier would cause certain wear and tear on the inside and outside of the pots. This wouldn’t make or break our decision to purchase this set but it is kind of a bummer that we now have to find or make something to fit between the pieces. When you’re spending so much on a stove set, you want to be able to protect it for many years of use down the road.

While the PrimeTech Stove Set 1.3L isn’t the smallest or most compact stove set we’ve ever used, it works tremendously well no matter what element we’re facing when dinnertime rolls around. The integrated burner/wind guard combined with the heat transfer pot makes for a very fast boil time so you’ll have dinner ready in no time. Whether you’re car camping or backpacking or backyard cookin’, Primus makes a lot of different stoves so be sure to check out their website so you can see what is best for you.
