[Review] MSR’s MicroRocket Stove Will Fit in Your Back Pocket

If you’re looking for a small, lightweight stove that delivers a big stove performance, look no further than the MicroRocket Stove from MSR Gear. Weighing in at only 2.6 ounces, you’ll hardly notice this canister stove in your pack or pocket.

While it’s small in size, the MicroRocket packs a big punch with its simple yet important features. The WindClip burner pushes a strong flame so no matter what environment or condition you’re in, you’ll be able to boil water. And you’ll do so quickly too. MSR states that the MicroRocket will boil 1 liter of water in just three and a half minutes and we can attest to this. We were blown away by how quickly it boiled a pot full of water for us. Not scientifically speaking, we were camping at an elevation of about 5000 ft. and boiled maybe 2.5 liters of water. It took under 5 minutes to boil. Our Top Ramen was ready before we even got the tent set up. I couldn’t believe it!

One benefit to having a canister stove is that you will automatically be provided with a stable base. Wherever you find yourself, you should be able to find a supportive enough surface for both your canister and attached MicroRocket stove.

Even though we almost always bring too much fuel, the MicroRocket is designed to burn fuel efficiently reducing the need for so much fuel. With that said, you can boil 2 liters of water with just 1 ounce of fuel (MSR IsoPro Fuel).

Check out the MicroRocket Canister Stove by MSR if you’re looking for a versatile, compact, and affordable stove option for your backcountry cooking needs. We’ve used a number of MSR stoves in the past (most recently the Dragonfly Stove) and feel that for the size, simplicity, weight, and performance; the MicroRocket is a great buy.
