[Review] The Dragonfly Stove by MSR

If you find yourself embarking on remote adventures, or simply want a lightweight and versatile stove for camping, the Dragonfly Stove by MSR has some impressive features. One of the most valuable features of the Dragonfly stove to us is the fact that it will burn almost any fuel including white gas, kerosene, diesel, automotive gas, aviation gas, and more. Basically no matter where you find yourself in the world, it should be an issue to fuel your stove. Heading off on our Baja trip, we brought white gas with us but were unsure of how much we would need. We didn’t worry about it at all because if we ran out of white gas, we could easily run fuel out of the motorcycles.

While the Dragonfly stove has a wide base for stability (which we love), it folds up nicely so is easy to pack when you’re tight for space. MSR includes a stuff sack to keep your stove set organized. Along with a stuff sack, they include a wind screen, heat reflector, and fuel pump. All you need to do is pick up an MSR Fuel Bottle and you are set to embark on a culinary-rich adventure.

The fuel pump is equipped with a valve so it won’t leak when detached although we noticed a few drips here and there which is not a huge deal. There are also two control valves, 1 for gas flow and 1 for the flame, making this again a very versatile and efficient stove!

One negative point I would like to make about the Dragonfly stove is that I found it to be very loud. It was hard to enjoy the waves crashing in the morning while boiling water for oatmeal. Tyson likes how loud the stove is and states, “I like my stove like I like my pickups…very loud!”

Between the two control valves and the ability to burn multiple different fuels, this is a very versatile stove that is so stable while cooking and easy to use! Pack it with you on any adventure and cook amazing meals in the wild.

We paired our Dragonfly stove with the MSR Quick-2 system and of course a MSR Fuel Bottle (30 oz.).
